Our Staff
Dr. Neil HessDr. Hess graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995 after which he completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Oradell Animal Hospital, Oradell, NJ. In 1998, Dr. Hess became certified in acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. He is currently a member of the Northern New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association and the Metropolitan New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association. After practicing in Old Tappan, NJ for almost 10 years, in 2007 Dr. Hess built a state of the art animal hospital in Norwood, NJ where the practice now resides. This new facility offers a warm, comfortable environment to meet all of your pet health care needs with increased hours of availability. Dr. Hess enjoys running and skeet shooting, and with his family, skiing, sailing and hiking. The Hess family has a bullmastiff named Josie, a cat named Swiffer and a French bulldog named Ray who can routinely be seen (and heard) at the office.
Dr. Christine AsgarDr. Asgar received her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and went on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2007. Prior to joining Old Tappan Veterinary in 2008, Dr. Asgar completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus, NJ. She is excited to once again be a part of the team at OTV, where she previously worked as an assistant and first developed her passion for veterinary medicine. When she's not working with animals, Dr. Asgar enjoys dancing, reading, cooking, and fixing up her new home with her husband Nick. They currently share their home with a rescued maltese named Mackenzie and three cats, Benjamin, Lizzie, and Maddie.
JanineJanine has an Associate in Applied Sciences degree from Bergen Community College and has been working in the animal health care field since 1981. She's been part of Old Tappan Veterinary since its inception in 1998. She has worked as a veterinary assistant, veterinary technician and receptionist. Currently Janine is head receptionist and still assists in exams. No pet admitted for a procedure leaves at the end of the day without first being groomed and cared for by Janine. Janine is an avid reader and spends most of her free time with her dog, Lynette, and three cats, Riggs, Duncan and Darwin. (Lynette also enjoys her "job" at OTV, welcoming both clients and patients from her post near the gate to the reception desk.)
Jessie
Jessie graduated in 1998 from St. Thomas Aquinas College with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Criminal Justice. She is currently pursuing an
Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology with Cedar Valley College,
an online university. Jessie has been at Old Tappan Veterinary since
2005 where she is not only involved with all aspects of pet care including
examinations, treatments, surgery, dentistries and x-rays, but also hospital maintenance, including computers and inventory.
Jessie is competitive at skeet shooting and enjoys camping,
snowboarding and hiking with her Labrador retriever Hunter. Jessie recently discovered her passion for small lap dogs when she rescued Lucky, a 10 year old Pekingese, that was in need of multiple life saving surgeries. Lucky is doing great today thanks to Jess.
MichelleMichelle graduated from Rutgers University in 2001 where she majored in history and minored in psychology. A lifelong animal lover, Michelle owns three long haired Chihuahuas and a Yorkie. She currently attends the Academy of Art University working towards a second bachelor's degree in fashion design. She likes to combine her artistic abilities and her love of animals to do pet portraits for fellow animal lovers. She works at OTV as a veterinary assistant/receptionist. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with family and friends and enjoys walking her dogs. Michelle is also married and a proud mother.
Jill
Jill has worked with animals since 1984 and is currently a veterinary assistant at Old Tappan Veterinary. She has taken care of everything from small exotics, reptiles & fish to farm animals & horses. Jill is married and has four children and she enjoys horse back riding, hiking and pretty much anything that has to do with nature and the outdoors.
Olivia
Olivia is an avid animal lover and is pursuing her Associates Degree in Applied Sciences for Respiratory Therapy while working at OTV. Helping out in any aspect is how Olivia likes to keep herself busy. When she is not working or attending school, Olivia enjoys hiking, movies, music, spending time with her nephew and running around with her most reliable companions, her dogs Max and Brodi.
CathyCathy graduated from Bergen Community College in May of 2009 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is currently studying for the VTNE in order to become a NJ state licensed veterinary technician. Cathy has years of experience and is involved with most aspects of animal care at Old Tappan Veterinary. Cathy's family consists not only of two children, but also 3 dogs, Callie, Riley & Carley, 3 rabbits, Oreo, Oliver & Delta May, as well as Phantom the horse. When she is not busy studying for her exam, Cathy enjoys watching tennis and Yankee baseball as well as running, reading and traveling.
